The Drop Cap Settings window allows users to customize the appearance, borders, colors, and spacing of a drop cap.
Access Drop Cap Settings:
- Place the cursor within a paragraph containing a drop cap.
- Click the Insert tab.
- Select Drop Cap.
- Click Drop Cap Settings. The Drop Cap - Advanced Settings window opens.
Drop Cap
The Drop Cap section allows users to configure the appearance and placement of the drop cap.
Position
Choose how the drop cap is displayed:
- In Text - Displays the drop cap within the paragraph.
- In Margin - Displays the drop cap in the left margin.
- None - Removes the drop cap formatting.
Parameters

| Font | Select the font used for the drop cap. |
| Height in Rows | Specify how many text rows the drop cap should span. |
| Distance from Text | Set the spacing between the drop cap and the surrounding text. |
Borders and Fill
The Borders & Fill section allows users to customize the drop cap border and background.

| Border Size | Select the border thickness. |
| Border Color | Choose the border color. |
| Border Placement | Apply borders to specific sides of the drop cap. |
| Background Color | Apply a background color behind the drop cap. |
Margins
The Margins section allows users to control the spacing around the drop cap.
- Top
- Bottom
- Left
- Right
Adjust the margin values to increase or decrease the space surrounding the drop cap.
ℹ️ Notes
Drop caps can only be applied to the first letter of a paragraph.

- Use drop caps to create visually appealing introductions for reports and formal documents.
- Use Distance from Text to improve readability when larger drop caps are applied.
