The SmartArt option allows users to insert visual diagrams that represent information, processes, relationships, and organizational structures. SmartArt objects help present complex information in a clear and visually appealing format.
Follow the steps below to insert a SmartArt object into a document.
- Place the cursor where you want to insert the SmartArt object.
- Click the Insert tab.
- Select SmartArt.
- Choose the desired SmartArt category.
- Select a SmartArt layout. The selected SmartArt object is inserted into the document.

Available SmartArt Categories
The SmartArt menu includes the following categories:

Add Text to a SmartArt Object
SmartArt objects can contain text within individual shapes. Steps to Add Text:
- Select the SmartArt object.
- Click inside a SmartArt shape.
- Enter the desired text.
- Repeat for additional shapes as needed. The text is displayed within the selected SmartArt elements.
Resize a SmartArt Object
Users can adjust the size of a SmartArt object after it has been inserted. Steps to Resize a SmartArt Object:
- Select the SmartArt object.
- Drag one of the sizing handles.

Release the mouse button when the desired size is reached. The SmartArt object is resized.

Move a SmartArt Object
Users can reposition a SmartArt object anywhere within the document. Steps to Move a SmartArt Object:
- Select the SmartArt object.
- Place the pointer over the object border.
- Drag the SmartArt object to the desired location.
- Release the mouse button. The SmartArt object is moved to the new location.
SmartArt Settings
The SmartArt Settings panel provides formatting and layout options similar to the Shape Settings panel, allowing users to customize the appearance and positioning of SmartArt objects.
- Use Process diagrams to illustrate workflows and procedures.
- Use Hierarchy diagrams to represent organizational structures and reporting relationships.
- Keep SmartArt text concise to maintain readability and visual clarity.
