The Borders option allows users to apply, remove, and customize borders for selected content within a document. Borders can be used to format paragraphs, tables, and other supported elements to improve organization, readability, and visual presentation.
Follow the steps below to apply borders.
- Select the paragraph you want to format.
- Click the Home tab.
- In the Paragraph section, click the Borders drop-down menu.
- Select the desired border option. The selected border is applied immediately.
Available Border Options
The Borders menu includes the following options:
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Bottom Borders | Adds a border below the selected paragraph. |
| Top Borders | Adds a border above the selected paragraph. |
| Left Borders | Adds a border to the left side of the selected paragraph. |
| Right Borders | Adds a border to the right side of the selected paragraph. |
| No Borders | Removes all borders from the selected paragraph. |
| All Borders | Applies borders to all sides of the selected paragraph. |
| Outside Borders | Applies borders around the outside of the selected paragraph. |
| Inside Borders | Applies borders between selected paragraphs or cells where applicable. |
| Inside Horizontal Borders | Applies horizontal borders between selected items. |
| Inside Vertical Borders | Applies vertical borders between selected items. |
| Horizontal Line | Inserts a horizontal separator line. |
Customize Border Appearance
The Borders menu also provides options to customize border formatting.
Option | Description |
| Border Style | Select a border line style. |
| Border Color | Select a color for the border. |

Available border options may vary depending on the selected content. Some border settings are intended for table formatting and are available only when a table is selected.
