The Training Center (Litmos) uses the IP addresses, domains, and services listed in this article to deliver emails and load course content and images. Adding these items to your organization’s allowlist (whitelist) helps prevent issues such as blocked emails or training content not displaying correctly.
Symptom
- End users are not receiving email notifications.
- Emails show as Delivered in the Litmos server, but are not received by the customer.
- Emails generated by the Litmos application are blocked or filtered.
- Course content or images may not load correctly.
-
Customers request:
- Allowlist (whitelist) items for Litmos
- Litmos email and content URLs
- IP addresses required to unblock emails
- This article provides guidance on possible causes and solutions to ensure Litmos emails are successfully delivered to end users.
Possible Causes
- The client’s email server detects Litmos emails as originating from an external server and blocks them.
- The client enforces email-sending limits (for example, email bombing or mass-email restrictions).
- A third-party email provider is blocking Litmos traffic at an advanced filtering level.
Resolution
SPF Allowlist Configuration
Add the appropriate SPF include based on your hosting region:
-
US accounts:
us-spf.email.litmos.com
(Covers all current live email source IPs for US-hosted accounts.) -
EU accounts:
eu-spf.email.litmos.com
(Covers all current live email source IPs for EU-hosted accounts.)
SPF Implementation Options
When configuring SPF records, note the following:
- A domain is limited to 10 DNS lookups.
- Adding an IP address directly does not count as a DNS lookup.
- Adding an include domain counts as one DNS lookup.
Option 1: Use SPF Include (Recommended)
- Example: include:us-spf.email.litmos.com
- Adds one DNS lookup
- Easier to maintain
- Automatically stays up to date as IPs change
Option 2: Add Individual IP Addresses
- Example: ip4:23.251.230.216
- Does not count toward DNS lookup limits
- Requires manual updates to stay in sync with Litmos IP changes
Note: It is the client’s responsibility to allow SPF records or individual IP addresses in their email environment to ensure the successful delivery of Litmos emails.
