Learning Paths allow you to organize courses and create prerequisites for your learners. When courses have been added to a Learning Path, the list of courses will be available to Learners.
Why you may want to use Learning Paths:
- Guide Learners seamlessly from one course to the next.
- Create prerequisites by not allowing learners to proceed to the next course until they have completed the one before.
- Allow learners to take courses "a la carte" or group courses together; If they complete a course outside of a Learning Path the course will be considered completed within the Learning Path as well.

How to Create a Learning Path
Follow these steps to create a Learning Path:
- Select Content from the primary navigation.

Click the Create a Learning Path button.

Fill out the required learning path Name, and define any optional parameters or settings listed below:
Note: The below settings can also be adjusted after the learning path creation, via the Settings section of the learning path. Skip to Step 4 if you do not want to use any of the optional settings below.- Description - This description will appear to users when they access the learning path. Can be used to include instructions, or can be left blank.
- Active - Check this box to make the learning path active, and viewable to assigned users. This box is checked by default.
- Take Courses in Any Order - Allows the learner to take the courses within the learning path in any order they choose.
- Enable Discussion Forums - Discussion Forums allow learners that are assigned to a learning path to have a discussion forum where they can post comments and respond to them. All users with access to the learning path will be able to see other learner's comments.
- Content Library - Include this learning path in the content library so learners can self signup.
- Enable Course Equivalency - Learning path course equivalency allow admins to mark courses within this learning path equivalent such that Learners only have to complete one of the equivalent courses within equivalent unit. Once this feature is enabled click on "+" to configure equivalent courses.

Enable Timed Release - Timed release allows administrators to determine when each course within a Learning Path may be started by an assigned Learner. When Timed Release is enabled, courses are released in pre-configured time-spans that count-down from the Learner assigned date, which means a certain amount of time after the assigned date must pass in order for the assigned Learner to be granted access to the course. Once this feature is enabled, click into the "timed release" tab to begin configuring the release time-spans for each course in Learning Path. (allows the administrator to determine when the course can be completed by the learner)
- Hide Timed Release Course Details - Enable this setting to hide the course details for courses that have not been released to Learners yet.
- Learning Path Image (Optional) - Upload an Image: Recommended dimensions: 450x253px - Accepted File Types: .png, .gif, .jpg, .jpeg

Learning Path Access Expiration - Allows you to set access to this learning path for a specific time frame. Options are:
- A Time Span: Determines how long learners will have access to the learning path once it has been assigned
- A Specific Date: Allows the learner to access the learning path until a specified date

Certificate Template - If you attach a certificate template to this learning path your students will be able to download it when they complete the learning path. You can put special placeholder fields like [LEARNING_PATH_TITLE] in your template and they will be replaced with student or learning path details.

- Competencies - Skill Mapping - Only available to premium training subscribers. Skills are the hard and soft skills that must be obtained by a learner to gain competence in the subject. Skills are grouped together to from each competency. Skills are also mapped to Courses or Learning Paths so that when these are completed the learner attains the mapped Skills. An Account Owner can configure this feature within the Account Settings Litmos Features Page.
- When you have completed all required and any optional fields, click the Save button to the right, to create the Learning Path.
Adding Courses to the Learning Path
Follow these steps to add courses to the Learning Path:

Once your learning path has been created, you can add courses. From the learning path content section, click on Add Courses.

Select the courses you want to include within your learning path.
Pro Tip: You can search for and select multiple courses from the list. Selected courses will appear on the right. -
Once you have selected your courses, click the Assign button at the bottom right of the dialogue box.

Once your courses have been added to your learning path, you can:
- Reorder the courses by clicking on 'Reorder' courses and then dragging/dropping to the desired location
- Mark a course as optional within a learning path by enabling the slider to the left of the X.
- Remove a course from a learning path by clicking the 'X' next to the course
