Line Numbers and Hyphenation

The Line Numbers and Hyphenation features help improve document readability, navigation, and formatting. Line numbers make it easier to reference specific content during reviews, while hyphenation improves text alignment and spacing by automatically breaking words across lines when needed.

Line Numbers

The Line Numbers feature adds sequential numbering to document lines, making it easier to reference specific sections of content.

Steps to add Line Numbers:

  1. Click the Layout tab.
  2. Select Line Numbers.
  3. Choose the desired numbering option. 
  4. Line numbers are added to the document.

Available Options

Option Description
None Remove all line numbering from the document.
Continuous Number lines continuously throughout the document.
Restart Each Page Restart numbering at the beginning of each page.
Restart Each Section Restart numbering at the beginning of each section.

Line Number Option

The Line Number Settings option allows users to customize how line numbers are displayed.

Steps to configure Line Number Settings

  1. Click Layout → Line Numbers → Line Number Option.
  2. Configure the desired settings.
  3. Click OK.

Available Settings

Setting

Description
Start At Specify the starting line number.
Count By Define the numbering interval.
Distance From Text Set the spacing between line numbers and document text.
Numbering Choose how line numbers are applied within the document.

Hyphenation

The Hyphenation feature automatically inserts hyphens into words when necessary to improve text spacing and alignment.

Available Hyphenation Options

Option

Description
None Disable hyphenation.
Automatic Automatically hyphenate words throughout the document.

Configure Hyphenation Settings

The Hyphenation Settings option provides additional control over automatic hyphenation behavior.

Steps to access Hyphenation Settings:

  1. Click Layout → Hyphenation → Hyphenation Settings.
  2. Configure the desired settings.
  3. Click OK.

Available Settings

Setting

Description
Automatically Hyphenate Document Automatically insert hyphens where needed.
Hyphenate Words in CAPS Apply hyphenation to words written entirely in uppercase letters.
Hyphenation Zone Specify the amount of space allowed before hyphenation occurs.
Limit Consecutive Hyphens Restrict the number of consecutive hyphenated lines.
