The Footnotes and Endnotes feature allows users to add supplementary information, references, citations, and explanatory notes to a document. Footnotes appear at the bottom of the page, while endnotes appear at the end of the document or section.

Insert a Footnote
Follow the steps below to insert a footnote.
- Place the cursor where the footnote reference should appear.
- Click the References tab.
- Select Footnote.
- Click Insert Footnote.
- Enter the desired note text.
- The footnote reference is added to the document, and the note appears at the bottom of the page.
Insert an Endnote
Follow the steps below to insert an endnote.
- Place the cursor where the endnote reference should appear.
- Click the References tab.
- Select Footnote.
- Click Insert Endnote.
- Enter the desired note text.
- The endnote reference is added to the document, and the note appears at the end of the document or section.
Navigate Between Notes
The Next Footnote and Previous Footnote options allow users to quickly move between notes within the document.

Convert Notes
The Convert Notes option allows users to change the note type throughout the document.

| Swap Footnotes and Endnotes | Exchanges all footnotes and endnotes within the document. |
Steps to Convert Notes
- Click the References tab.
- Select Footnote.
- Click Convert Notes.
- Choose the desired conversion option.
- Click OK. The selected conversion is applied.
Notes Settings
The Notes Settings window allows users to configure numbering, location, and layout options for footnotes and endnotes.
Access Notes Settings:
- Click the References tab.
- Select Footnote.
- Click Notes Settings. The Footnote and Endnote Settings window opens.
- Perform the desired settings.
- Click Apply to make those changes.
Available Settings

| Number Format | Select the numbering style used for footnotes or endnotes. |

| Custom Mark | Use a custom character or symbol instead of automatic numbering. |
| Apply Changes To | Determine whether the settings apply to the entire document or a selected section. |
Delete Footnotes and Endnotes
To remove a footnote or endnote, delete the reference mark within the document text.
When the reference mark is removed, the associated note is automatically deleted.
- Use footnotes for brief explanations and endnotes for extensive references.
- Review footnote and endnote numbering before publishing or printing the document.
